AI for keeping track of competitors and your sector

Updated on 25 October 2026. By aidock.

To keep track of your market with AI, use a conversational search engine that cites its sources. Draw up a list of topics and competitors to follow, then automate a regular summary sent by email. Always open the cited links, because AI can summarise an article badly or rely on an old source.

Ready-to-copy prompt

Find the latest news from [period, e.g. the past week] about [topic or competitor] in France.
For each item: title, date, source with link, two-sentence summary, possible impact for a business in [sector].
Ignore advertising and pages without a date.
End with the three points to follow up first.

Replace the parts in square brackets. Always reread the result before using it. Learn to write a good request

How to choose

Sources cited and dated

Every piece of information must link to a page and a date, otherwise you can neither check it nor know how recent it is.

Coverage of French sources

Test searches about your sector to see whether the tool finds the trade press and official French websites.

Scheduled summaries

An automation tool can run the search at fixed intervals and send you the result without you doing anything.

Discreet searches

Your questions reveal your plans: check whether the provider reuses your searches to train its models.

Step by step

  1. List about ten specific topics at most: competitors, calls for tender, regulations, the price of a raw material, new products.
  2. Write one standard search per topic that asks for recent news with dates and links.
  3. Schedule a weekly summary with an automation tool, or block a fixed time slot to run it.
  4. Rank each item by its impact on the business and share only what calls for action.

Common mistakes

  • Repeating information without opening the source, when the date, the context or the figure may be wrong.
  • Piling up summaries that nobody reads, because the topics were poorly chosen.
  • Forgetting that a web page can contain hidden instructions that steer the assistant’s answer.

Frequently asked questions

How can I keep an eye on my competitors with AI?

List their websites, product pages and public accounts, then ask an AI search engine each week what has changed. An automation tool can collect these pages and send you a summary. Stick to public information.

Can I trust the sources AI cites?

A cited source does not guarantee a faithful summary. Open the link, check the date and find the sentence that was used. Prefer official websites and identified media.

Do I need a paid tool to keep track of my market?

A free plan is often enough to test a few topics. A paid plan becomes useful with automation, a high volume of searches or confidential searches. Compare the conditions of each tool in the Index before choosing.
