Fix the answer

Situation

The situation

A first answer can be reworked: say what is wrong.

You run a bakery in Lyon. The AI has written the announcement of your new walnut bread for your customers. The text is twenty lines long and sounds like an official letter.

Idea 1 of 3

An answer is a draft

The first answer is not a verdict. You can ask for changes in the same conversation: the AI keeps in mind what it has just written.

Idea 2 of 3

Say what is wrong

“That’s not right” does not help it. Say exactly what to change: the length, the tone, what to keep or remove.

Idea 3 of 3

Give a measure

“Shorter” is still vague. “3 lines at most” is clear. The same goes for tone: “warm, as if you were talking to a regular”.

Example

Before and after

Avoid

No, do it again.

Better

Shorter and warmer, please: 3 lines at most, as if I were talking to a regular. Keep the name of the bread and the launch day.

Why? The second request says what to change, with a measure, and what to keep. The AI has nothing left to guess.

Question 1 of 2

The AI’s answer does not suit you. What do you do?

The AI’s answer does not suit you. What do you do?

You say exactly what needs to change. A first answer can be fixed. Saying exactly what is wrong makes the next one much better.

Question 2 of 2

Which length instruction is the clearest?

Which length instruction is the clearest?
See the answer

3 lines at most. A measure leaves nothing to guess. “Not too long” means something different to everyone.

Exercise

Your turn

Write your follow-up message to get a shorter, warmer version, in 3 lines.

First request

Write an announcement of our new walnut bread for our customers.

It was already sent to the AI. Write the next message in the conversation.

Ctrl + Enter to check your request.

Checklist

  • Ask for something shorter, to do
  • Ask for a warmer tone, to do
  • Give a precise length, for example 3 lines, to do
